Weedgrowers WeeklyJournalism was unable to survive the Double Dutch War. Ending fighting over the right spelling, journalists were fired from their jobs. This was not that bad at all, because there were hardly any media left. There was no more paper for the newspaper, TV-sets had been banned by the FIOD, radio became scarce with a lack of energy. However, one magazine survived and became Hollands best read newspaper: Weedgrowers Weekly (WW). Starting as a small magazine in the 20th century to provide weed growers with news and tips, WW turned out to be the best informed party during the War. Instead of using regular paper, the magazine was printed on hemp paper, in large amounts supplied by their readers. After the War, WW overtook the market that was left by the fighting journalists. WW went daily, and soon the publisher started a TV-journal for the elite, and a radio broadcasting station for the more common people. Core of the company stayed the hemp paper magazine. The FIOD tried to put taxes on it for polluting the environment with useless paper, but WW could prove most readers actually smoked the magazine after reading it, and King Alex X decided that the freedom of press had to be guaranteed for WW. |
