General rules

  • The GSP-Forum is part of Myrias, please obey their support-team, (global) moderators and administrators. If you are causing trouble with them, there is no way I can help you. Inform yourself about the forums before posting.
  • Behave. Be polite. Be nice to each other. Don't annoy others. Don't troll. Don't spam. Don't flame. Don't advertise. Do I have to say more?
  • Language on the forum is English. Some forums are in German. Post in the appropriate language: only English threads in the English forums and German threads in the German forums.
  • Don't post anything illegal. This does not only apply to themes on porn or violence, but also on the topic of copyright: only post things that you have made/written/drawn/photographed yourself. No trading or sharing of illegally copied mp3s, pdf's and such is allowed. Keep in mind that the administrators and moderators are responsible for the forum content, and they can delete such postings when they see them - without further notice.
  • Have fun! That's an order, I think

Rules for GSP

  • I would appreciate it if you kept on topic: steampunk, gothic horror, retro-SF, steam-fantasy, fantastic stories, 19th century stuff, scientific romances, Victoriana, Schauderromane, the dark romantic, tales from the Romantic or Biedermeier age, the grotesque, the bizarre, the sublime in literature, art, and life. You get the picture.
Extra announcement: the GSP-boards are not there to discuss so-called gothic rock music in general (even though I like it) - you can post on that topic in the general Music board.
There is a "Free Talk" board for anything off-topic, and many other Myrias-boards for specific or general discussion, some of them hosted on this forum, others in the Connecting Communities forum or in one of the other forums (see the "All partners"-list).
  • I would also appreciate it if you posted content in a discussion, and not just things like smilies or "I agree" without any other text - this is extremely annoying when you got a slow modem. Give your opinion and your arguments, so we can talk about it and keep the discussion vivid.
  • Please do post anything that has nothing to do with GSP on one of the other boards or forums, there are plenty of them, and they will enjoy on-topic threads as well. If it's not obvious, please tell us why you think your thread belongs in the GSP-Forum. Example: a discussion about the steampunk content in LXG is okay, but a discussion on the cast used for it can better be put up in the Movies-forum.
  • Don't spoil: if you have something to post that might spoil the experience of seeing a film or reading a book, please mention [spoiler] in the title or in the first sentence of your posting. There is a spoiler-tag (the most right in the lower row of tag-icons).
  • I would appreciate it, if you post an introduction posting in the Engine House (not immediately, but after a while, when you decided you'd like to come here more than often). That way, I know who comes here for GSP and who just drops by from one of the other forums (but are just as welcome posting). This way, we steampunkers might get the chance getting to know each other among the other 4000 Myrias-users.
  • This is an international forum, don't go mocking someone else's style of writing or spelling errors; to err is human. Make sure you understand what someone else is trying to say, even if his/her English is a bit weird. Better ask before you judge. Keep in mind that some here might have other "obvious" ideas because they have a different cultural background.
  • By questions concerning the content of the GSP-Forum, contact me or post in the Engine House. By technical questions, you can ask me, but it might be better to post you question in The Court or write to support@myrias.eu. If you know German, you might want to go to the "Vorhof des Gerichts" and see if someone else already had the same question there.
  • If you want others to see it, only attach files to your postings that are "compatible". Not everyone has the same hard- or software as you. Use .txt, .rtf, .htm, .pdf, .jpg, .zip or .gif files. Never upload .exe files, not even zipped. First, because people might think it's a virus, second, because I can't use it (I've got a Mac) and check whether it's a virus or a safe proggie.

General hints and FAQ

  • You won't see how much postings you have, and you won't be rated according to the number of postings - the only thing you gain with posting a lot off topic (spamming) is disrespect. So there is no reason to boost your postings at all. We're all equal in a discussion, whether you're a newbie or a veteran.
  • You can pick an avatar from the avatar-list. You can't use your own avatar by uploading or hot-linking it. If you want to have your own avatar, please contact the moderators in The Court (there's a special thread for it). You can send them the avatar you want or attach it to your posting, and they will upload it for you.
Then, you will see it appear in the avatar-list. Only you can use your personal avatar.
By picking an avatar, please make sure you either own the copyrights to it, or the owner of the copyrights agrees with you having the picture as an avatar. Myrias wishes to be as copyright-clean as possible, and avatars with unclear copyrights will be refused.
  • After registration, go to your user-centre. There are a lot of things you can change to make the forum fit your desires (the possibilities are endless so I won't list them here, but getting rid of that bright green skin is one of them).
