Signs in the sky

Some of the Dalethians of the elemental religion believe that the stars influence the splinter and thus the character of a person. They will watch which bright star comes first over the horizon on the day the child is born: the child will have the same character as the person who's splinter it is.
It is not exactly known which splinter/star belongs to which deceased personality, but there are scholars in Altheizar who have studied this for a long time and they claim to have a method of determining the origins of a star. Long tables, heavy books and large diagrams spiced up with sky maps are the result of their study. The texts are hard to understand, and in some places written in a secret or coded language.

It is not just paranoia of the Scholars of Altheizar to keep their studies a secret. Many people consider it blasphemous and desecration of the splinter to study and use the splinters of the dead in such a way. Or they say that the scholars got it all wrong because the bright splinter belongs to their deceased loved one and not to the famous person the Scholars of Altheizar have connected the star to.

Some of the splinters that have been identified by the Scholars of Altheizar:
  • The River of the Drowned (milky way)
  • The Dynasty of the Jaskobubaï
  • King Kiran
  • Queen Alormaui
  • The Man Who Stood Up Against The Gods (polar star)
This list is much longer and describes most stars that can are visible with the bare eye in Altheizar, even during the grey summer nights when only the brightest stars are visible.

In the static tables of the scholars, there are some exceptions. Some unusual events in the sky might influence the character of the new born child. Such events include:
  • Veiled stars: this means always something bad it going to happen, the child might be a murderer or just an evil person.
  • Blinking stars: if the stars are blinking on the evening of the birthday, the child will have a bad health and might die very soon. Because the blinking usually has to do with changing weather conditions, there might be some truth in it.
  • Suddenly bright star: The child will be rich and famous, though probably not very happy.
  • Covered star: A start that should be there but is nowhere to be seen is probably covered by clouds or other objects in the sky. It means the child will be protected by the gods during his whole life.
  • Lukarna covered star: The child will be mad and foolish, and should stay away from hallucinatics. Yet the gods will protect it from bad accidents.
  • Twabairthei covered star (since 1820): The child will be shy and if no one stimulates it, it will live unnoticed.
