The IFFR hasn't even start­ed yet, but last week­end I was again cross­ing the bor­der to see a movie not avail­able on the big screen near me. And it adds to the ex­pe­ri­ence to see a fun­ny movie about Hitler in a Ger­man Kino with real Ger­mans. I left around 13:00 on sat­ur­day and ar­rived just in time at a nice cin­e­ma in Aachen for the 17:30 screen­ing. So how was the movie? I thought the only thing that made it in­ter­est­ing is that it's about Hitler, and the rest isn't very in­no­vat­ing. It re­mind­ed me of The So­pra­nos, which shows how capo Tony needs a shrink to keep go­ing, pre­sent­ing it as the ab­surd re­al­i­ty be­hind the im­age some­one has to keep up to be ac­cept­ed as leader. But most­ly those trag­ics work only on lead­ers that get into such a po­si­tion by birth, like kings who would rather do some­thing else than run their coun­try. And the bu­reau­crat­ic scenes re­mind­ed me of some As­ter­ix and Obe­lix movie. And there are a lot of "Heil Hitler!"s in it, but not as over the top as "Fuck"s in South­park. It just doesn't top those. So the sto­ry wasn't that bril­liant, but it has Helge Sch­nei­der, Meret Beck­er and Kat­ja Rie­mann. Which is nice.
