After a cou­ple of weeks with a re­place­ment Nokia I'm glad to have my P800 back. It cost about EUR 100 to get it fixed, but that in­volved re­plac­ing some parts and now it's got the lat­est soft­ware as well. I could have bought a Treo or some­thing, but I haven't even used half of the pos­se­bil­i­ties of the P800. For play­ing with video I've had the hard­ware around for years, but only now I've found out I can use my Haup­pauge WinTV/PCI to do this:

And then do this:

ffm­peg -i ex­am­ple.avi -acodec am­r_nb -ar 8000 -ac 1 -ab 32 -vcodec h263 -s qcif -r 15 ex­am­ple.3gp

And then trans­fer it to the P800 and watch a cap­tured tv show on the P800. It's not per­fect, but it's fun.
