Be­cause I don't un­der­stand Eclipse un­less some­one tells me ex­act­ly where to click with what but­ton - and be­cause I'm lazy - I used the Red5 0.3 Win­dows in­staller this time, in­stead of SVNing the lat­est in Eclipse and build­ing and run­ning the stuff my­self. But the in­staller works ex­cel­lent and the demos walk with it. The only small catch was that in red5.prop­er­ties the serv­er is con­fig­ured to lis­ten on lo­cal­host, but af­ter chang­ing that to a more ap­pro­pri­ate in­ter­face I could run the demos on my iBook of a Lin­ux web­serv­er and con­nect to the Red5 serv­er on the Win­dows 2000 box. And to top it of I in­stalled Riva FLV en­coder (by VNCing into the Win­dows box, be­cause I'm lazy), en­cod­ed some .mpg video I had lay­ing around, moved it into the right di­rec­to­ry and streamed that one from the Red5 serv­er to my iBook. And I found that very im­pres­sive. I hope I can keep up with the de­vel­op­ments in Red5 like this and maybe run some­thing on a pro­duc­tion serv­er lat­er this year, but al­ready se­ri­ous­ly play­ing around with it rocks as well.
