Train trouble

Sunday 2 October 2005 01:46

Usually I can get around a piece of rail network that's disrupted due to a power failure, but yesterday I was already in the train when every train around Utrecht was halted due to a power failure at around 19:00. After one hour I was still stranded at Maarsen station. But in Maarsen is a mall, and in that mall is a Dixon's. So while waiting for alternative transport I bought a Linksys WRT54G wireless router. And now I'm enjoying the luxury of wireless internet around the house. The setup is still a bit awkward with the Speedtouch 510 and the Linksys both doing DHCP serving and providing different IP ranges, but changing the ACL for squid was the about the only reconfiguring I had to do. It works out of the box, and then securing it is easy enough.
