Jet-Set ======= Tuesday 14 July 2009 15:37 Occasionally I buy some Coke, so occasionally I should get a free download from iTunes. The issue is that iTunes is split up into provincial stores, and if you have an account in one area, that doesn't count for another area. So my Dutch iTunes account is pretty useless in Germany, and the free download with the Coke is only valid in the German iTunes store. It's possible to transfer my Dutch account to a German area account, but for some reason they need my credit card data. But I only want to get my free download and am not planning to buy anything in that store, so they can just fuck off with their annoying crap. And now I'm supposed to feel guilty downloading music for free from another source? The Playstation Stores are also split, and some downloads you can only get in a local store, so you have to log into an account set up for that area. Accounts aren't transferable between area's for some reason, so I can't even use the German Playstation store with my main account. Add to that region-codes and some geolocation of IP numbers and just moving around the world frequently you soon learn to never buy digital media again, because the media you legally bought in one country don't have to work in another country and why start breaking the law only after spending your money? Why is the media-industry still behaving like some Honecker? by Roland van Ipenburg http://www.xs4all.nl/~ipenburg/blog/posts/play/2009/07/14/jet-set/
