Mein Fuehrer

The IFFR hasn't even started yet, but last weekend I was again crossing the border to see a movie not available on the big screen near me. And it adds to the experience to see a funny movie about Hitler in a German Kino with real Germans. I left around 13:00 on saturday and arrived just in time at a nice cinema in Aachen for the 17:30 screening. So how was the movie? I thought the only thing that made it interesting is that it's about Hitler, and the rest isn't very innovating. It reminded me of The Sopranos, which shows how capo Tony needs a shrink to keep going, presenting it as the absurd reality behind the image someone has to keep up to be accepted as leader. But mostly those tragics work only on leaders that get into such a position by birth, like kings who would rather do something else than run their country. And the bureaucratic scenes reminded me of some Asterix and Obelix movie. And there are a lot of "Heil Hitler!"s in it, but not as over the top as "Fuck"s in Southpark. It just doesn't top those. So the story wasn't that brilliant, but it has Helge Schneider, Meret Becker and Katja Riemann. Which is nice.
