Amazon Fucks Up
Saturday 6 August 2005 ◷ 16:56
On May 11th I ordered Royksopp's "Melody a.M.+4 [+3 Enhanced]" from Amazon.de. On the 5th of August I think I finally recieve "Melody a.M.[+Ltd.Bonus CD] [DOPPEL-CD]". But while it's listed as B00006JKKK, the CD I actually recieved isn't from the Canada label, it's Wall of Sound. The CD package has EAN 724359137827, Amazon just puts it's own EAN label on it making it 724381335208, pretending it's a special import including a bonus disc, while it's just the regular enhanced. None of them are the product I ordered, which is the very special version, worth 45 Euronen.
Sure, any company can make a mistake and send the wrong product once in a while. But deliberately putting another UPC on a product clearly shows Amazon doesn't know what it's doing. And once the customer sees it's Melody A.M., maybe even checks the faked UPC, rips open the seal, the customer is screwed.
So, how about returning the disc to Amazon? There is a way to try to do that:
- Pick the order in which the article you want to return was included
- Suddenly there is a link to return wrong articles
- You give in the description of the wrong article
- You get a whole list of every item in your order like you want to return them all???
- Am I supposed to send back 18 CD's because one is the wrong version?
Second try. Don't go the "wrong article" route, just say the article is broken. Print out the barcode and expect to get into deeper shit by sending the CD back to Germany and never hear from it again. The next step is to start downloading a pirated version just in case...

So it seems all to turn out OK. But it would be a bit ironic to order the Melody A.M. I just send back...
