Amazon daytrading

What's the concept behind Amazon that tells you to make some money by selling "past purchases", that in their own database still have a future estimated delivery date? And they have a return policy so I can get all my money back, like if the shipment arrives as a box filled with shattered stuff. Why don't they just advertise with "don't buy this crap and save 100% (+ shipping)"?
